Where did the past 20 months go?

It’s been close to two years since I posted, and unsurprisingly it was when I first began my amazing, stressful, emotional, rewarding and powerful journey volunteering with our local cat shelter.

  • 11406916_10153262779756418_1846633720602583930_nI became heavily involved, very quickly with the charity and soon became a board member and then the Secretary. Market stalls, database manager, foster carer, rehome cordinator, the list of roles I dabbled in was endless!
  • I became Assistant Department manager at Coles.
  • A fellow volunteer inspired me to apply for Vet Nursing school.
  • I quit Coles and got a job at the Pet Shop
  • I got in to Vet Nursing School. And qualified. And now have a full time position at an awesome small and large animal vet clinic 6 minutes from my home.
  • I went from having Mum’s farm cats only to visit, to having four of my own (Well three cats and a mini Satan)12189848_10153561231426418_2608746380674114165_n
  • Brad and I celebrated four years together. We super-celebrated having not killed each other yet.
  • Australia (and myself) got Netflix. My social life died even more (and I didn’t think that was possible)
  • Most importantly, I gained some truly wonderful new people in my life. My Vet Nursing buddies and my Cat Shelter ladies. <3

Catching up!

It’s been a fantastic fortnight since I started volunteering with the Mid West Cat Shelter Inc. It’s very rewarding, and though I know I’ll be devastated when the day comes for the kittens to be adopted, I’ll still know that I helped save their lives and will be able to save more.  I’ve already met some wonderful people involved and I’m having a great time fostering the three kittens!

This is the welcome home I get each day!

Well let’s make that two kittens. I officially adopted one of them barely a week in.

AlexMeet Alex!

They get up to some crazy antics! Backflips off the couch, playing gladiator fighting on the tops of our high-backed office chairs and boy do they give good cuddles when they are finally sleepy!

Below are the photos I am using to help advertise the beautiful boys Marmalade and Fanta, along with this spiel.

Meet FANTA and MARMALADE, 8 weeks old and ready to adopt now. They play so well together and it would be lovely to see them go to the same Forever Home.

Fanta is a little more boisterous than Marmalade, whereas Marmalade prefers to snuggle and have a bit more quiet time. Together, they are a great team and provide all the cuddles and play a Forever Family could want! Fanta and Marmalade are being fostered in a home with a four year old boy, so they are accustomed to small children and are very patient with him.

All of our cats are micro-chipped, immunised, health checked and sterilised before going to their new homes. Kittens under the age of 5 months are provided with a sterilisation voucher. The adoption fee for all our cats and kittens is $150 to help towards these costs and to allows us to continue our work towards the welfare of cats in our community.

Having the kittens restricted to the office, means I often sit down to get in some gaming time and get distracted by someone cute wanting attention. (Don’t worry, the office is huge so I’m not being cruel. The room has a double bed, sofa bed, pool table and three desks with plenty of play room)

AlexSaysNoI’m going to eat your face if you don’t bring me food immediately!

I have managed to get in a reasonable about of WoW this week though. I even got valour capped for the first time sins Cataclysm! (and never realised about the Valour of the Ancients buff that grants an additional 50% additional Valor to other characters on the same server!)

Punchdance is one step closer towards her legendary cape. Just need the next two weeks of Valour cap to complete A Test of Valor. I even managed to run a couple of Looking For Raids on Casadella in Resto!

What have you been up to this Easter break?

Becoming a Kitty Foster Carer!

What a whirlwind of a day. I started browsing photos of Exotic Short Hair kittens, as I always do. http://sweetfurr.blogspot.com.au/ always puts a smile on my cranky morning face.

SweetFurr4These adorable faces get me every time!

I would just love to have one of these cats of my very own, but I can only seem to find them available through breeders here in Australia. Whilst I am sure they are fantastic cats, it’s hard to justify paying thousands for a cat, when there are beautiful kitties just waiting for their forever homes in the pound and shelters. Neri gave me the idea to email all of the local rescue groups anyway just to see on the off chance if they had any Exotics. It was on the Mid West Cat Shelter Inc. facebook page that I saw their latest post was looking for more foster carers to join their team as they were at max capacity. It had only been earlier this morning where I was looking at my good friend JessK’s recent Facebook photos of her current foster dogs. She volunteers with Staffy and Bully Breed Rescue Inc and has previously spoken about how rewarding it is.

After a good chat with the boyfriend (and by good chat, I mean bribing him with a roast dinner, dessert and being his barmaid for the next two days) I have sent off my forms to become a Foster Carer! I don’t know why I didn’t think of it in the first place!

I would love nothing more than to have my childhood cat Rolly leave the farm and come live with me, but he’s too old to uplift now. And I know he’d never forgive me if I did get my own cat. Fostering is the perfect answer. I get to save lives, find forever homes for wonderful animals and get my crazy cat lady fix at the same time!

Growing up, all of our family pets have been strays, or abandoned animals that we had taken in and given a home to. My first dog (that I got to call my own) when I was around 9 years old was a beautiful German Sheppard cross Dingo. I remember watching TV and hearing a soft puppycry coming from outside. I grabbed a torch and looked under Mum’s car. These two bright yellow eyes glared back at me and I screamed and ran back inside in fear. My parents eventually coaxed the skinny puppy out from under our car and she was shaking. She had awful rope burn marks around her neck and tail, no collar and was extremely timid. Her “owners” never came forward to collect her. We fed her up and she very soon became a part of our family. I lovingly named her Crofty, after my favourite video game at the time starring Lara Croft. She was an amazing, loyal animal and was constantly grateful for her new, happy home.

So first thing tomorrow it’s off to the shops to get supplies. The Mid West Cat Shelter Inc team have already responded to my email and it looks like my first foster kitties may be some 8 week old kittens!

Have you given an animal their Furrever Home? Have you had any experience fostering before?

Why I Am My Avatar

This month over at Gamer Wife the Gadabout Gamers blog link up theme is I Am/Not My Avatar. As Neri was creating her entry, we had the fantastic realisation that whilst we have been housemates and besties for years, we are complete opposites on this topic. She is not her avatar, and I definitely am!

Like my characters in World of Warcraft, I have a pony mount. His name is Noddy, and he lives happily on Mother’s farm with his other horse pals.

Like my 600/600 Master of the Ways Casadella, I am pretty darn good in the kitchen!

Just as my hunter does, I can tame animals to be my loyal companions

There’s nothing I love more than a gear upgrade. Especially getting each new tier helm!

I’ve been lucky enough to already have plenty of travel under my belt, with many more awesome destinations to come. Though it’s much easier for my characters to mount and fly at will, I still manage to find a way to see the world.

Are you your avatar?

Cupcakes and Coffee

It was a quiet day here yesterday, so that meant time to get baking!

Caramel mud cupcakes and a very milky latte were a great way to end a relaxing day. Neri’s four year old Pokemon Master Liam helped as Master of Mixing and Quality Assurance. After topping the cakes with caramel flavoured icing and half a jar of dinosaur sprinkles, we got the seal of approval!

Liebster Award Nomination!

There can be no better way to launch Casa Conquers, than by receiving a nomination for a Liebster Award from Neri over at Mama Needs Mana! I feel so honored! But what’s a Liebster Award, you ask?

“Well, it is only an AWESOME award given to up and coming bloggers. Given by other up and coming bloggers. It’s a cool way to find other blogs and feel like you are getting into the blogging stratosphere. It is simple, you get nominated by someone else, mention their page and a link to their blog in your Liebster Award Post, answer the 11 questions they give you, then tag 11 other nominees and give them a new set of 11 questions to answer.”

Onward to the questions Neri has sent my way!

What inspired you to start blogging?
I loved sharing my Warcraft screenshots and pictures of my cats which I did almost daily through Facebook. I eventually thought to myself that it would be great to continute to share these things, but with an audience who choose to visit my blog and want to see the content, rather than forcing it upon my friends, family and acquaintances that might just see it as Newsfeed clutter.

If you won a free ticket to Blizzcon, what panels would you be most excited about seeing?
I was first going to say the costume contest. Though having watched the last two Blizzcons with a virtual ticket, I’ve found the most excitement I get is watching the Invitationals. So I’d be most excited to see the finals of all of the live competitions, especially PVP! So much adrenaline!

How do you balance time in-game with your ‘RL’ commitments?
Now that I am no longer a Full Time Travel Consultant, I have so much more gaming time; who would have thought?! I do find that even with my extra gaming time that I manage to get everything I need done. I like structure and organisation a lot!

No longer shall my gaming time be interrupted with pesky exotic destinations and pristine beaches!

If World of Warcraft shut down its servers tomorrow (Or you aren’t currently playing), what would you be playing instead?
I’d be devastated, but then I’d load up some old Final Fantasy games and start replaying those through. The new South Park game looks pretty sweet too, so I’d give that a whirl.

Are there any bloggers out there who you aspire to be like? What is it about them that you love?
Neri! She was the one who was always motivating me, and was the one who gave me that final push to help start my first Tumblr. Then Blogger. Then Casa Conquers: and all the bits along the way. Neri Approves was a fantastic read, and now Mama Needs Mana is even better. She has a great style to her writing, and it’s always an interesting post. I’m not even a parent and I still enjoy her parenting posts! And she’s awesome enough to put up with me as a friend in real life, so she’s a trooper!

Always ready for shenanigans; Casa and Neri

Are you brave enough to show us your gaming set up?
Definitely not right now! My normally impeccably tidy desk looks like a tornado blasted through this morning! Though I can tell you that I have dual widescreens, a Logitech G110 keyboard, a Razer Naga Epic mouse and a $20 headset. Oh and a greyscale painting of Squall Leonheart I did in highschool on the wall.

At what age would you let your children (Real or hypothetical) start playing video games?
Hypothetically, whenever they became interested in them. Obviously I would ensure limitations like a healthy balance of educational time, outside play time and would police what type of games. I would be very wary of games (like WoW or Minecraft) where they could end up talking to, or reading about topics unsuitable for their age in chat. I would definitely make sure those functions were blocked!

You have a weekend of interruption free gaming ahead of you. What essential supplies do you stock up on to get you through it?
Red Bull, good coffee and water. Pizza delivered for dinner is just a given. And then cheeses, wafercrackers, hommus dip and pumpkin with cashews dip as snacks.

If you could pick any job in the gaming industry, what would it be?
It would be on the public relations / community manager / online media side of things. I cant compose a story or music to save my life. My art skills are just as bad.

Have you ever done any gaming cosplay?
It wasn’t to cosplay conventions or anything, but I have dressed with proper costumes and wigs as a Night Elf Rogue, a Human Warrior (haha) and Sailor Moon for Halloween parties over the years.

Casa Moon

She is the one named Casa Moon!

What is the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever seen done in an MMO or multi-player game?
It was ridiculous, and the best thing I’d ever seen in an MMO. The questline for The Day Deathwing Came. I laughed hysterically the entire time, have never taken so many screenshots in such a short time, and written down so many beautiful quotes!

Now the next step is for me to nominate my favorite bloggers, but I am too late to the party! You’ve all been nominated already! The links over to the left are my favourite gaming blogs so if you’re looking for something new to read, give any of these awesome blogs a read!

Welcome to the launch of my new project.

Casa Conquers: documents the Chronicles of Casa. Girl versus world. One victory at a time.

Many topics will be covered, but they will mostly be gaming and lifestyle focused. Browse around. Most content to come soon. Enjoy.

In the meantime, here is a picture of a Cat Goat.

You’re welcome.

Heading to America this weekend!

I’ve just returned from a trip to the bank, and now have a handy little wad of US Dollars in my hands ready for our trip to America THIS WEEKEND. I am beyond excited. Our poor, poor credit card is going to get decimated, but so many wonderful times shall be had.

This will not last long. At all.

To add to my excitement the Warlords of Draenor Expansion Preorder is now live! Fantastic news to wake up to. If you click the the following link, you’ll arrive at a great post by the wonderful Cymre explaining the details.

My Monk will be my free boost to 90, though she is currently level 26 and I will be boosting her once she is 60 to get the bonus professions. What are your thoughts? Boosting a fresh toon, or a veteran character?

Diablo III Party!

I’m sure you’re all aware that Diablo III has now kicked up to 50% bonus XP in the lead up to the next expansion due at the end of this month.

Myself and my good buddies Neri and Disconcur have fired up the Diablo Update and are preparing for a Diablo-filled weekend. We’re rolling brand new characters and shall see where the weekend takes us!

I couldn’t decide between Witch Doctor and Wizard. They’re the two classes I had played the most and enjoyed the most. On a whim (and because she’s hot) I decided on a Demon Hunter!

Depending on how many friends we can get to join us, this could even turn into a levelling competition. My record is level 21, so hopefully I can at least pass that!

Are you going to take advantage of the XP buff?
